SENSOR OPERATION

Beefhouse Outer Ring Detection

  • BLACK LINE
    • All photons are absorbed by the black floor
    • The transistor has no base current
    • The transistor is essentially 'OPEN'
    • R7 "Pulls Up" the micro pin to 5 Vdc or Logic 1
  • WHITE LINE
    • Photons are reflected back into base
    • This excites current in the base and saturates the transistor
    • The transistor is 'CLOSED'
    • The voltage at the Micro pin is the same as the voltage across the BJT (Vce ~ 0.3 V or LOGIC 0)
  • [NOTE] R7 Sets the current through the collector and effectively the GAIN of the transistor. This can be used to fine tune the distance sensitivity of the sensor.

TUTORIAL

  • Breadboard the schematic in the "Beefhouse Outer Ring Detection" jpeg located in the sensor operation
  • Replace R7 with a 20k Potentiometer and a 100 Ohm Resistor
  • Replace the mirco controller with a LED. (Place Cathode to GND and Anode to R7 {easiest way})
  • Use Electrical tape and a white surface and watch the LED does it detect the different surfaces? If not adjust the gain by adjusting R7
